MatSu United FC: The Next Chapter

Alaska City FC rebrands as MatSu United FC
Published May 31, 2020

Following a historic first season in UPSL, Alaska City FC has rebranded as MatSu United FC.

The decision to move on from the club's first name, and subsequently open a new chapter in the history of the club, was one that was made to better represent the region MatSu United FC represents; that of course being our home in the Matanuska-Susitna Valley.

Breaking down the name even further, the inclusion of "United" even has some deeper meaning behind it - seeing as MatSu United are the only UPSL club from the Mat-Su Valley, and constantly striving to improve soccer opportunities for players in the Valley specifically. MatSu United FC, in this new chapter of the club's history, will seek to do just what their name implies and "unite" the Mat-Su Valley in support of their community's club.

When asked about his thoughts on the rebrand, one of the club's first players Elijah Crawford had this to say:

"I like it! It's got a better ring to it I think. I'm glad there's a Valley team and I'm eager to see where the new management takes the team!"

MatSu United FC's first event as a rebranded club was hosted over the weekend, with a bevy of players from all around the Valley and beyond turning out for the club's 2020 open tryouts, including many familiar faces!

While the club's name has changed, our principles stay the same. We remain dedicated to improving the standard of play in the Mat-Su Valley and all throughout Alaska, now with a name that's more true to where we're from. With the 2020 UPSL summer season right around the corner, keep an eye out for more exciting announcements at MatSu United FC.
